The Discovery Museum has partnered with the University of Bridgeport to design the curriculum for the STEM on Wheels bus. The University of Bridgeport, in collaboration with the Discovery Museum, won a grant from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) to address the STEM opportunity gap in the greater Bridgeport region. The project aims are to:
- Bring STEM experiences to schools lacking resources.
- Provide K to 12 students with hands-on, STEM-focused skills aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
- Train UB engineering, science and math students in effective teaching practices that communicate the excitement of STEM activities.
NASA Connecticut Space Grant Consortium has also partnered with the Museum and UB to provide stipends to UB students to offer mediated STEM learning sessions to students and visitors.
STEM on Wheels makes visits to schools throughout Bridgeport and stations at the Museum for special weekend and summer STEM activities.
