What are stars, and how to astronomers study them? We’ll learn about the properties of stars, and what makes one of our Galaxy’s A-listers, the Sun, so very special. —Is it really brighter than the other stars we see, or is it a matter of perspective? We’ll explore the relative sizes of the Earth, Sun, and Moon by making models for comparison. Hands-on activities include using a Lux Meter and the parallax method to compare brightness and learn distances between stars, respectively, on LED “stars” in the classroom, and making our very own sundials and using them to tell the time!
