Empowering Girls Through STEM
A mighty after-school program where 4th grade girls learn about women leaders in STEM
Mighty STEM Girls is a free after-school program for 4th grade girls enrolled in two Bridgeport Public Schools. Students opt-in to the program solely on the basis of an interest to learn more about STEM topics and careers.
We meet weekly at the schools for hands-on workshops. Each workshop features the life and career of a female leader in STEM and a hands-on lesson that enables participants to experience what different STEM careers are like, as well as the science, technology, engineering, and math content behind them. Our Mighty STEM Girls have predicted the weather, launched rockets, created and solved codes, built star core models, and so much more!
There is a strong correlation between familial learning and success in school. Families of the Mighty STEM Girls are welcomed to the Museum quarterly for special Family Days. Family Days feature curated content ranging from planetarium shows to live science demos, fun workshop challenges, and even a trip to the movies (Hidden Figures!).
Mighty STEM Girls recently completed its first year thanks to the generosity of our funders, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls and Wells Fargo Foundation. We look forward to continuing to offer Bridgeport’s Mighty STEM Girls opportunities to be inspired and see themselves in the women leaders and pioneers in STEM that they learn about in class. We would not be able to provide this impactful program without the generous support of our funders.
Additional corporate and foundation support will allow us to serve more students and grow the impact of this program.
