What is a chemical reaction, and how can we test to see if a reaction has taken place? We will learn about how some reactions can change the pH of a substance, and after learning what pH is, we’ll conduct tests of household substances for pH before observing how a chemical reaction can change pH levels. We’ll demonstrate the separation of atoms in an electrolysis experiment. We’ll also learn that that heat, or lack of, can be an indicator that a chemical reaction has taken place (exothermic and endothermic reactions).  Students will create both of these reactions aand use thermometers to measure the difference.
