Parties at the Museum are a unique and exciting way to celebrate your child’s birthday. There are several ways to present the party. Most often parties are held on Saturday or Sunday, but arrangements can be made for a weekday afternoon or school holiday. A deposit is required to hold your date.

If you are planning to give goody bags to your guests, our Museum Store can provide fun and unique items to match your party theme!

General Information
For All Discovery Museum Parties we provide:
• Party Staff
• All project materials
• Room with tables & chairs & access to a refrigerator
Parents provide:
• Refreshments
• Paper goods
• All required fees
Staff and materials are NOT provided with the “Explore the Museum Party”
Birthday Party Guidelines
Set-up
Parents may have access to the Party Room for set up 30 minutes prior to the scheduled party reservation.

Party Host Responsibilities
The party host will supply tablecloths, napkins, plates, cups, utensils, decorations, party favors, cake, refreshments, candles and matches.

Party Favors
Party favors may be purchased through our Museum Store by calling 203-372-3521 x125. Please give at least 3 weeks notice.

Guest Arrival
Plan on having your guests arrive at least five, but not more than fifteen minutes prior to your scheduled party time.

Adult/Chaperone Attendee Parameters
All parties with the exception of Explore the Museum and WonderTots are “drop off parties”. Two adult chaperones are admitted free of charge. Additional adult chaperones may be charged the regular admission price of $8.50 each. (See party brochure for guest maximums)

Guest Greetings
The admissions staff will direct parents to the party room where they can drop off their child. Your Party Guide will assist in greeting your guests in the party room and will take attendance.

Party Schedule
With the exception of the Explore the Museum party, your group will assemble in the party room where your Party Guide will direct your chosen party activity for the allocated time of one hour. Once your activity is complete, Parents/Chaperones will direct the refreshments and gift opening portion of the party. General admission to the exhibits and public planetarium shows is permitted after the party end-time.

Party End-Time
The party room must be cleaned of garbage, food and party decorations, and vacated within 20 minutes after the designated ending time on your contract.

Payment
A $50 deposit is required to hold your party date and time. Final payment is due and payable upon the completion of the instructional portion of your party. (Explore the Museum Party payments are due upon arrival.)

Cancellations
If you must cancel your party for any reason, please do so as soon as possible, but no less than 24 hours. The $50 deposit given when your party was booked is non-refundable if your party is not rescheduled.

In the case of inclement weather, please call the museum for closings or delayed openings. If your party is cancelled due to a museum closing or delayed opening, we will reschedule your party or refund your deposit.
WonderScience Parties


Suitable for Ages 3-13
Select a theme from the list (sorted by age). We just might have the perfect science project for your child’s birthday.

Preschool | Ages 6 & Up | Ages 8 & Up

Our staff will plan and direct all science activities for 1 hour.
When it’s all over, your child and his or her guests will have some
great memories, a fun project to take home and a little extra
science knowledge. Admission to the museum after the party
ending time is also included.

Fees: $200 includes up to 12 children
$10 for each additional guest
15 to 20 guests maximum (depending on age)

Additional materials fee applies if specified.
Explore the Museum

Suitable for Ages 7 and Up

Your group will be invited to explore the Museum’s hands-on exhibits, attend a planetarium show*, take in a high-definition film, and participate in any other special programs that are available on your chosen day. If you wish, you may arrange for a private room to gather, serve refreshments, or open gifts to complete the experience.
*Public programs only. A private show can be booked for an additional fee..

Fees: $50 room use
$7.00 each child
$8.50 each adult (first 2 free)
$1.50 off regular prices for 10 or more children

Recommended Party Length is 2 1/2 hours
Challenger Learning Center Party

Suitable for Ages 10-adult

Fly a simulated space mission to the Moon in the Museum’s Challenger Learning Center. Take on the role of navigator, life support specialist or robot operator as you and your team solve realistic problems. Get a taste of life in space without leaving our home planet Earth.

One hour is reserved for serving refreshments. Parents oversee the refreshments and gift opening.

Fees: Mini Mission: $170 for up to 10 guests
$10 for each additional guest (14 maximum)

Full Mission: $400 for 16 - 20 guests
$20 each additional guest (34 maximum)

Mini Mission is 1 hour; full mission is 2 hours
