Sign your children up for our week or two week long, exciting, hands on programs and open the doors to a whole new world of exploration. Program instructors are members of the museum’s highly trained staff.

Multiple program discount - Book 5 or more programs in a single purchase and receive a 10% discount off program fees. To receive this discount please order your programs by phone, mail or in person (Not applicable to Extended Care)

Summer Programs
Kids from Kindergarten to Grade 9 can learn and have fun with hands-on, week-long programs at The Discovery Museum and Planetarium.

We even have special two-week programs for children Grades 6 through 9 to pack in even more excitement! Full and half-day programs run from June 22 to August 7 and feature new themes each week. Extended day programs are available until 5pm.

Brainiacs - Grades K-1
Weekly Program Rate: $205 non-members / $180 members
Hours: Monday – Friday 9:00am - 1:30pm
Extended Day Program: $60/session
Hours: Monday – Friday 1:30pm - 5:00pm

Up, up and away with birds, kites, bubbles, planes and all sorts of things that take to the sky.
BUG U • June 29-July 3
It’s a buggy world out there! Learn about bugs and insects during this creepy, crawly week of fun!
A PIRATE’S LIFE • July 6-10
A’vast mateys, step aboard the good ship Discovery! Join us as we scour the seven seas, and learn how things sink and float, and about the creatures of the deep (and not so deep). Program includes a field trip to the Long Island Sound.
DINOS • July 13-17
We’ll go back in time to when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth, and explore our beastly friends both ancient and modern day. Program includes a field trip.
KOSMIC KIDS • July 20-24
Become an astronaut for the week. Learn about our planets and space. This week promises to be an out of this world experience!
SOUNDS ALL AROUND • July 27- 31
Explore the science of sound and make your own band – full of musical instruments.
LOONEY LABS • Aug 3-7
Join us for a week of wild and wacky science experiments. Slime, ooze, and lots of other fun things – we guarantee an explosive experience.

INTO THE WOODS • June 22-June 26
Calling all young naturalists! Birds, bees, bugs, worms, and plants are all ready to meet you. We will venture into the woods behind the Museum and visit the creatures that live there.
DIG IT UP! • June 29-July 3
Uncover what scientists can learn by digging in the dirt! You will be an anthropologist, archeologist, and paleontologist. Learn about ancient people, cultures and of course… dinosaurs!
Program includes a field trip to Dinosaur State Park.
UNDER THE SEA • July 6-10
Dive into an undersea adventure! We’ll explore the ocean world from the shoreline to the deepest depths. What lives down there? And how do we find out? You’ll discover all this and more during this week of hands-on fun! Includes field trip to the Long Island Sound. Program includes a field trip to the Long Island Sound.
MAKER BLOCKS • July 13-17
You can do WeDo®. Learn robotics with Lego WeDo® and watch your creations come to life. Make robots, cars, planes or anything you can imagine and build.
KIDS IN SPACE • July 20-24
What’s it like in space? Find out with planetarium shows, telescoping making, model rocketry and other out of this world fun.
MAD SCIENTIST LABORATORY • July 27- 31
WANTED – Mad Scientists ready to get up to their elbows in all sorts of possibly yucky experiments. Explosions possible. Must be willing to risk learning something!
MORE MAD SCIENTIST LAB • Aug 3-7
Can’t get enough of being a Mad Scientist? This week promises to get even madder than the week before. Join us as we continue the madness and take our laboratory to an even wilder level!

DISCOVERY CSI • June 22-June 26
Let your inner detective out! This is the perfect program for those who like to solve puzzles and have an attention for detail. Take fingerprints, extract DNA and learn how forensic science solves mysteries. We’ll even go on our own treasure hunt, and attempt to solve a crime!
ROCK STARS • June 29-July 3
Learn about the rocks and minerals that can be found in Connecticut and beyond, from Earth to outer space. We’ll learn about the geology of the area and learn how minerals become gems, and use them in projects that you can take home at the end of the week. Program includes a geology field trip.
CANDY LAB • July 6-10
Get a taste of the sweet world of candy in this delicious program. We’ll discover the science behind candy making, and make and package delicious treats to share as gifts with family and friends. Program includes a field trip to a local candy factory.
OCEAN EXPLORER • July 13-17
Get submerged in a week of ocean exploration. Build and test an underwater robot. Climb into a real submarine. Play “sink and float” the counselor. Program includes a field trip to the Long Island Sound.
ADVANCED MAKER BLOCKS • July 20-24
If you love building, problem solving and engineering using Legos and other materials this is the program for you! You will design and solve challenges using Lego® Mechanism & Pneumatics as well as other materials.
SPA SCIENCE • July 27- 31
Did you know that most of the beauty products we use come from nature? Spend a week discovering where products come from, and making your own. At the end of the week, each participant will take home a basket of personally made spa products.
MAKER LAB • Aug 3-7
Join the Maker Movement! Learn the elements of good design. Work with tools, our 3-D printers, and various materials to, er, make stuff. Who knows? Maybe you’ll invent the next big idea!

SCIENCE OF ART • June 22-June 26
Explore your creative side with painting, pointillism and photography. Learn about how the human eye works, explore color theory, visual phenomenon, and light. Study the Hubbell spacecraft, primitive fish printing and the camera. You’ll leave with an exciting portfolio!
AWESOME ANIMATION • June 29-July 3
Everyone loves an animated film. Now you can create your own show! We’ll start with the basics of traditional drawn animation, then use cameras and computers to make your characters come to life! You’ll make a short film on DVD that you can take home!
CYBERPLAY • July 6-10
Everyone wants to make their own video game, but you’ll actually get to do it. Learn basic programming and work as a team to create a game that will impress all of your friends.
ROBOT MAKER • July 13-17
Seems like robots are everywhere! Ever wish you had your own? Learn about robotics and build one to take but, sorry, it won’t do your homework.
SPACE EXPLORERS • July 20-24
Build model rockets, design a space suit for an egg, conduct hands-on experiments, assemble a mini-robot, attend a space science demonstration and planetarium show as part of the training for a simulated mission to the Moon in the Challenger Learning Center
SOLAR SPEEDWAY • July 27- 31
Get charged up during this week of solar energy fun! After experimenting with forms of solar power, you and your racing team will build a solar-powered go-kart to compete against others in an energy endurance race.
DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME! • Aug 3-7
Get ready for a week of the coolest, hottest, most explosive activities you can imagine. Mad Scientists and Evil Super Geniuses welcome! Don’t worry, you’ll be safe, but remember... Don’t Try This At Home!!!

ROLLER COASTER SCIENCE
June 29-July 10 (Two Week Session)
Get into the science of all that shakes, rattles, and rolls. Experiment with the physics of amusement park rides and ride a real roller coaster in the name of science. Program includes a field trip to an amusement park.

SENIOR SPACE ACADEMY
July 13-24 (Two Week Session)
Blast off for an adventure that’s out of this world! Design rockets, test a high altitude balloon, build a space robot, learn how to use a telescope and much, much more! You won’t want to ‘space-out’ on this chance to explore the Universe!

MAKER ACADEMY • July 27- 31
You’ll stretch your imagination and become a ‘Maker’ with the help of our tools and materials. Learn to use a 3D printer and work with various materials to make whatever you can think up!

3-D DESIGN • Aug 3-7
It’s a 3D world! Learn how to model and design using various 3-D modeling programs and other materials. Let your imagination run wild with no limits to what you will be able to create! We’ll also produce some of our designs using 3D printers.
