Summer Programs at The Discovery Museum

SUMMER DISCOVERY SERIES July 6 - August 14 For children ages 8-12 Our NEW Discovery Series allows kids to explore their creative side. These hands-on programs blend science, math and art. Fee per program: $275 non-members / $247 members Hours: M-F 9:30am - 3:30pm
	SPA SCIENCE • July 6 - 10 Did you know that most of the beauty products we use come from nature? Spend a week discovering where products come from, and making your own. On the last day of the program, we’ll open up The Discovery Spa, and you’ll have a chance to try your products out!
	PHOTO PHANTASTIC • July 13 - 17 Help build a room size-camera, build your own pinhole camera, and develop your own photos! We’ll move from analog to digital cameras and photo-editing software. Participants will end the week with a showing at the Discovery Museum. Each student will receive a portfolio of their photography.
	GEMSTONES, GEOLOGY, AND JEWELS • July 20 - 24 This program rocks… literally! Learn about the rocks and minerals that can be found in Southern Connecticut. We’ll learn about the geology of the area, learn how minerals become gems, and use them in projects that you can take home at the end of the week.
	THE SCIENCE OF ART • July 27-31 Where do the worlds of science and art overlap? At the Discovery Museum! This program will explore the science behind art. Be ready to draw, paint and sculpture. Participants will end the week with a showing at the Discovery Gallery, along with creating artwork they can treasure in the future.
	DISCOVERING MY 3-D SPACE • August 3 - 7 Grab your imagination, and create a space that is all yours! This program is where the world of 3-D clashes with reality. You’ll learn simple CAD (computer-aided design) programming to design a space, and then use it to create a miniature model. What space is lurking in your mind? A new bedroom? A storefront? A game room? Only you can decide…it’s your world!
	AWESOME ANIMATION • August 10-14 Everyone loves an animated film. Now you can create your own show! We’ll start with the basics of traditional drawn animation, then use cameras and computers to make Lego or clay characters come to life! You’ll make a short film on DVD that you can take home! SORRY! This session is full so we have added another session running July 6 - 10, sign up soon!
